Do you have a collection of CD’s and need to rip them into iTunes to fill up your new ipod? There is a hard way and an easy way. The hard way is not changing anything in iTune’s settings and ripping music the way it is set to. The easy way is to change settings in iTunes so that you can pop in a CD anythime and have iTunes rip your music automatically.

First, click edit on the upper left part of iTunes and click preferences. A windows will pop up and you need to click the advances tab at the top of the window and then click importing on a new set of tabs within the advanced tab. The next part is key. You need to select "Import CD and eject" in the drop down menu where it says "On CD Insert." After the first CD is inserted in your computer when iTunes is open, iTunes will automatically rip the CD and then eject the CD tray when finished. This is important because you don’t have to stay at your computer, just look over at your computer and insert a new disc anytime you see the CD tray open.

There are other very useful options that you can use here too. You can decide what format you want your music to be imported with which can save space or make your music work with more devices. Next, pay attention to the quality settings because it is not worth doing all this if the music sounds horrible afterwards. It is also probably important to uncheck the option to play songs while importing music. Another important setting to check is "Automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet." This feature is really nice because you don’t have to create the names of the tracks saving time and making file management much better. Also make sure "Create filenames with track number."

Computers are made to make your life easy, it is time to make them do it. You can also do this in Windows Media player with similar options.

Wow Sprint! Possible $60 unlimited plans

sprinlogo

I reported yesterday about all the cell carriers offering unlimited calling plans. Engadget now reports that Sprint may offer $60 unlimited plans. Wow! Get the link here.

If you talk too much on your cell and suffer from horribly huge cell phone bills, it is time to update. Just about, wait… All major cell phone companies are now offering or will offer an all you can eat (that means unlimited) cell phone plan. Helio, Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and now T-Mobile are not offering unlimited voice plans for $99.99. Some include text and some don’t but you can get unlimited data and text with most of these plans.

If your cell phone bill is over $100 a month for voice, go to your local cell phone company store or call and update to the unlimited plan.

Ever wanted to add your Windows Explorer (My Computer) or just called Computer in Vista? All you have to do is click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and then right click on Windows Explorer and select Add to quick launch.

Ok, yes Windows Explorer is not My Computer but to my knowledge you cant add My Computer to the quick launch area buy you can click my computer on the left hand side. Some might think that this actually may add steps to get to your My Computer but Windows Explorer is where you can find the directory of any file.

I think most would only want to do this if they use quick launch frequently.

Here is a really cool tip! Ever been looking at something small on your Mac and needed the ability to zoom in? All you need to do is hold down the "ctrl" key and scroll up or down with your mouse.

If you have a MacBook, you need a mouse with scroll. If anyone knows how to do this with a keyboard shortcut so you don’t need a mouse, please let me know.

blu-ray

The retail giant Wal-Mart has announced that it will officially stop selling HD DVD in June this year. Among others, Best Buy is also going to feature Blu-Ray in all of their stores. If you have been waiting for the war to end before buying HD DVD or Blu-Ray, I think your safe to buy Blu-Ray.

I told you once how to remove startup programs to speed up your computer but it can get annoying having to that over and over each time you install something new.

WinPartol 2007 is free and will fix this problem. WinPartol is available in a paid PLUS version that includes other stuff but it is not needed for what I am about to tell you. The free version will not only manage startup programs, but it will tell you when a new program adds itself to try to start up. This way, any time you add new software, WinPatrol will alert you if it tries to start when your computer starts. If you like WinPatrol, I suggest you pay for the full version.

You can get WinPartol here

The Apple store was down today, the only updates… From what I can tell, Aperture 2 is available and Apple TV take two is available. Was Apple TV 2 already available? I cant remember. Where is that 3G iPhone and that touch on a MacBook Pro?

default

Ever installed software for pictures to find that any time that you click on a picture the new software opens automatically and your old preferred software no longer opens? This is because the new software has changed the file associations with the files you want to open and it has made itself the default program.

If you would like to go back to the old program starting up when you click on the same file you need to change your program defaults. The first thing you need to do is go into your Control Panel and click on "Default Programs."

In Default Programs, I suggest you poke around and read all of the cool things you can do. To change the pictures back to the old software you need to click on is "Associate a file type or protocol with a program." You will then see Loading…

Once everything loads, click an extension that you want to change like .jpg or .giff which are common for pictures. Once you click the file, click the button "Change Program" and pick the program you want to use to automatically open the file.
